Senior Adults

The Carolina Center for Behavioral Health is dedicated to providing high-quality, compassionate care for senior adults who are in need of psychiatric and/or chemical dependency treatment. Adults age 60+ receive specialized intervention and stabilization services in a structured setting. The staff includes geriatric psychiatrists, registered nurses and master’s-level health professionals who are dedicated to helping patients recover.

Warning signs that may indicate a need for evaluation include:

  • Increased agitation or anxiety
  • Ongoing confusion or disorientation
  • Depression
  • Fear or paranoia
  • Hallucinations or delusions
  • Increased memory issues
  • Suicidal thoughts
  • Mood swings
  • Sleep disturbances
  • Wandering
  • Social withdrawal

Inpatient

For senior adults who need hospitalization, 24-hour compassionate nursing care is provided on two separate and secure units: one for independent, high functioning seniors and one for those needing more assistance with their activities of daily living. Our programs focus on stabilization and long-term healthy aging strategies while our experienced physicians and support staff emphasize special care in the medical management of the elderly. Social workers and therapists conduct group therapies and provide discharge planning to help patients remain well after they leave our care.

Partial Hospitalization

The Senior Adult Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) meets Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. The program includes a daily nursing assessment, regular sessions with a psychiatrist, family sessions as needed, and daily group therapy and education.
