The Senior Adult Psychiatric Program at The Carolina Center for Behavioral Health serves older patients (age 65 and older) dealing with a mental or behavioral health disorder such as depression, anxiety, behavioral disturbances, dementia, or early-stage Alzheimer’s disease.
All senior adult services are under the direction of a board-certified geriatric psychiatrist and are delivered by a treatment team consisting of psychiatrists, clinical therapists, psychiatric nurses, activity therapists, and other professionals who specialize in the needs of the geriatric patient.
For senior adults who need hospitalization, 24-hour compassionate nursing care is provided on two separate and secure units: one for independent, high functioning seniors and one for those needing more assistance with their activities of daily living. Our programs focus on stabilization and long-term healthy aging strategies while our experienced physicians and support staff emphasize special care in the medical management of the elderly. Social workers and therapists conduct group therapies and provide discharge planning to help patients remain well after they leave our care.
The Senior Adult Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) meets Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. The program includes a daily nursing assessment, regular sessions with a psychiatrist, family sessions as needed, and daily group therapy and education.
